BHC Impact Fund providing much needed support to residents during the cost-of-living crisis

August 21, 2024

As many Queenslanders struggle with housing instability and escalating living costs, BHC is proud to have delivered support to over 400 of its residents from BHC’s Impact Fund, outlined in the organisation’s 2023/24 Impact Report.

The Impact Fund provided crucial support to 421 residents over the last financial year to assist them to sustain their tenancies, improve their health wellbeing, enhance employment skills and foster cohesive communities.

Each year, BHC commits a minimum of $150,000 to the Impact Fund, fuelled by the profits from its ‘profit for purpose’ real estate agency, Elevate Residential.

The real estate agency generates revenue from property sales commissions and property management fees, with 100% of profits being donated to BHC.

“At BHC, we believe that housing is just the foundation for a better life. To truly thrive, some of our residents need access to a range of supports and opportunities,” said BHC Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Oelkers.

“We are incredibly grateful to Elevate Residential for their unwavering support, which allows us to provide essential services that go beyond housing. From employment and training programs to mental health and wellbeing initiatives and social inclusion activities, the Impact Fund is making a tangible difference in the lives of our residents. Together, we are building stronger, more cohesive communities across Brisbane.”

In addition to targeted grants and programs, BHC residents benefit from improved access to vital on-the-ground services and supports delivered by our community partners. This place-based service delivery makes a measurable difference to many residents who may be struggling to navigate external services and systems.

Elevate Residential Principal Licensee Chris Meadmore said the program encouraged property owners to make positive choices about where their property management fees go.

“Elevate Residential is committed to making a difference. By choosing Elevate Residential to manage or sell their properties, homeowners are supporting meaningful initiatives that support communities in need across South East Queensland. Together, we are contributing to real, positive change.”

The Impact Fund is delivered under BHC’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025, which focuses on two key goals, to grow the supply of affordable housing and support residents and communities to thrive.
