Completed in February 2019, this $10.5 million project was developed in partnership with the Queensland Government’s Department of Housing and Public Works to provide older Queenslanders in public housing with the opportunity to downsize into modern, beautifully designed apartments where they can age in place with dignity.
The development delivers 35 one-bedroom apartments and a multi-purpose room, all built to Gold and Platinum Livable Housing Design Standards. These homes are not only highly accessible and safe, but also thoughtfully designed to support independent living and long-term wellbeing. Residents enjoy a strong sense of belonging, mutual care, and social connection.
Strategically located in Springwood, Benson Place offers residents excellent access to transport, local shops, and essential services, ensuring they remain connected to the broader community.
Named in honour of Colleen Benson, whose 27 years of service through the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association Inc. have deeply enriched the Springwood area, Benson Place carries forward her legacy of compassion and community spirit.
The project plays a vital role in addressing underoccupancy in public housing. By enabling seniors to transition from larger homes to purpose-built residences, it frees up family-sized properties for those in need, creating a ripple effect of housing opportunity across the region.
BHC offers some other types of housing designed to support people at different stages of life and with different needs.
Are you earning a steady income but still finding it hard to keep up with rising rents? Affordable housing could be the solution.
