“When your children find something they are good at, it’s really important to support them in their endeavours.”
Liesl successfully received two grants during BHC’s 2021/22 Impact Fund Grants Program for her son, Noah. Soccer is something Noah is really passionate about and during Round 1 of the Grants Program, BHC were able to fund his soccer registration fees through the Educate and Participate Grant.
During BHC’s Grant Round 2, BHC identified a clear need within the portfolio for grants to support young people. To respond to this need, the Bright Future Responsive Fund was created to support the educational and extracurricular needs of children who live in BHC properties. Liesl was one of seven BHC residents to receive a Bright Futures Responsive Fund- with Noah receiving a laptop to assist him with his schooling.
“It just felt I could really breath a big sigh of relief, because trying to find that money is quite difficult when you’re a sole parent or when you’re on a low income.
“Having to say no all the time, I feel it’s really hard on parents, so it felt really great to be able to say, yes we can get that laptop, yes I can pay off your soccer fees, I just had the biggest smile on my face.”
The Impact Fund is made possible through the financial support of BHC’s social purpose real estate agency, Elevate Residential, which directs 100% of its profits to the Fund. Learn more about Elevate’s commitment to creating real change for Queenslanders in need.
We thank Liesl and Noah for sharing their story.
